As the lovely photos show, Ian typically had a twinkle in his eye and an irrepressible sense of fun. He was also very kind. He often came to my aid when I was struggling with some function of the Old Hall tractor, helping me out without making me feel like an idiot. He could also be quite surprising, in what he'd say or do. Not run-of-the-mill at all! I am glad and grateful to have known him. Thinking of all the family coping with this shockingly sudden loss.
